TTC Chapter 4

The Tao is an empty vessel; it is used, but never filled.

Oh, unfathomable source of ten thousand things!

Blunt the sharpness,

Untangle the knot,

Soften the glare,

Merge with dust.

Oh, hidden deep but ever present!

I do not know from whence it comes.

It is the forefather of the gods.

Any thoughts?

Thank you, great to contemplate on - Being an empty vessel ... Tao is seen here as a source, as the forefather, of the gods... I would see it more as the essence which made it possible that all things and everything / no-thing could sprout from... at the other hand Tao is 'me', but when one is not filled with ego, it is beyond mind thinking of 'me'... it is not the ignorant state, because one sees: sharpness will be soft, difficulties easy, darkness light, and turbidity clear...

Here is Jeff's explanation.

Quote

The Tao is an empty primordial sea of motion and void.

It is the motion of this nothingness that gives birth to all that exists (10,000 things).

The steps to realize the Tao are hidden inside us, but always available. Those steps are...

 Quiet the lower emotions,

Open the heart,

Move beyond the glare of the astral,

Merge (become one with) all, and be able to differentiate even the smallest partical of dust.

No one knows where the Tao come from, but knowing it gives birth to the Gods/Immortals.

Any thoughts?

Not adding so much asking... I always get a little stuck on... merging and becoming one with all and yet be able to

differentiate even the smallest particle of dust. Wouldn’t merging with the all negate differentiations?

For me, it is more about knowing yourself at that point.  Like do you know all of the details of your fingernail?  Or can you find every being that exists within yourself?

Not the way I was entertaining the idea. Makes sense now . Thank you :)
