FaXin
Interesting text. Here’s one that caught my eye today: ”Faith receives, love gives. No one will be able to receive without faith. No one will be able to give without love. Because of this, in order that we may indeed receive, we believe, and in order that we may love, we give, since if one gives without love, he has no profit from what he has given. He who has received something other than the Lord is still a Hebrew.” Gospel of Philip Edited September 11, 2019 by FaXin 1
FaXin
“If one goes down into the water and comes up without having received anything, and says "I am a Christian," he has borrowed the name at interest. But if he receives the Holy Spirit, he has the name as a gift. He who has received a gift does not have to give it back, but of him who has borrowed it at interest, payment is demanded. This is the way it happens to one when he experiences a mystery.” Gospel of Philip This one is interesting... Anyone have any thoughts on the verse? 2
Wizz
Nothing comes for free there is always a price to pay but if one is with the Holy Spirit then one's life becomes free / liberated.
Cheya
I'd like to hear others input. Best I can come up with is It's harder (costs more effort?) to act like a Christian than to be a Christian...

Receiving the Holy Spirit is what makes one a Christian. To call yourself a Christian without the experience/realization and knowingly doing so is an ego trap. You are borrowing the name building desire in the mind. Such things build and grow or have interest.
FaXin
Thanks guys. All great replies. I would interpret it to mean that the experience & gnosis of the Holy Spirit (Light transmission) is what counts - the gift. Especially at the end when it says “one who experiences the mystery”. Just calling yourself a Christian will not do anything for you spiritually. In the end you will be in the same place as when you began (having to repay the debt).
FaXin
“Some said, "Mary conceived by the Holy Spirit." They are in error. They do not know what they are saying. When did a woman ever conceive by a woman? Mary is the virgin whom no power defiled. She is a great anathema to the Hebrews, who are the apostles and the apostolic men. This virgin whom no power defiled [...] the powers defile themselves. And the Lord would not have said "My Father who is in Heaven" (Mt 16:17), unless he had had another father, but he would have said simply "My father".” Gospel of Philip This one seems to be saying the story of the Immaculate Conception is spiritual in nature.

The TTC describes the same point like this... 24. He who stands on tiptoe is not steady. He who strides cannot maintain the pace. He who makes a show is not enlightened. He who is self-righteous is not respected. He who boasts achieves nothing. He who brags will not endure. According to the followers of the Tao, These are extra food and unnecessary luggage. They do not bring happiness. Therefore followers of the Tao avoid them.
FaXin
"The world came about through a mistake. For he who created it wanted to create it imperishable and immortal. He fell short of attaining his desire. For the world never was imperishable, nor, for that matter, was he who made the world. For things are not imperishable, but sons are. Nothing will be able to receive imperishability if it does not first become a son. But he who has not the ability to receive, how much more will he be unable to give?"
