Hurricane Dorian

The storm is about 90 miles directly off the coast , and while the Bahamas got wrecked , here in the center of the state , by disney , we just have cloudy skies and occasional light breeze.

Thanks, I thought it might lend perspective , that even a few miles from the shore,  the impact may be minimal.

Scary stuff.... Glad it missed  FL... hopefully it stays off the coast completely.

Yeah , I think its going to get South Carolina.  Luckily Fernand-on the gulf side is petering out...

But then there is Gabrielle way way out in the Atlantic,  at a latitude which could be trouble.

Well things are looking better , Right? , Dorian may miss entirely , fernand is petering out , and Gabrielle is being predicted to stay at sea. 

Googling the mortality of past hurricanes, I'm thinking most people just left the Bahamas in advance, and theyre probably coming back now, to where there homes used to be.

Yes. It seems like people are taking the warnings more seriously then in the past.

The more accurate the warnings are , the more they will be heeded .

When I first came to Florida the weather people seemed to have a lot less certainty ,

and appeared to want to panic everybody in the state , which is bad ,

because roads and safe lodgings become flooded with folks who really dont need to be out there.

Most of the deaths , I am told are actually,  people driving around in the rain OR are in flood prone coastal locations. 

They had the 'boy who cried wolf" thing going on , and then had less credibility. 

The interval for problematic weather is around 8 years for most of the southeast coastline ,

so its understandable  to me , if last minute type things end up waiting for a storm to be looming. 

 

This time St Johns water district , the power guys , FEMA and so forth 

were even more on the ball than last storm , I think the authorities are getting the hang of it.
